Residents of occupied territories are Ukrainian citizens – Gerashchenko

First Deputy Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Iryna Gerashchenko has reiterated that people living in the temporarily occupied territories are Ukrainian citizens.

She stated this in a conversation with people at the Marinka checkpoint in Donetsk region, the press service of Donetsk Regional State Administration reported.

“As long as checkpoints exist, they must be provided with decent conditions for the citizens of Ukraine, who are crossing the line of demarcation. After all, of course, people living in the temporarily occupied territories are our citizens,” Gerashchenko said.

According to the first deputy speaker, the main goal of the Ukrainian president and the Ukrainian authorities is that all these checkpoints that divide the territories of Donetsk and Luhansk regions disappear. But they can disappear only after the territorial integrity of Ukraine is restored and control at the Russian-Ukrainian border is regained.
