Relatives of captured Ukrainian sailors to tell about Russian aggression in UN

On Monday, March 11, the relatives of captured Ukrainian sailors, Natalia Mokriak and Olha Oprysko, will tell about Russian aggression in Ukraine and the fate of their relatives at the UN Headquarters in New York.

"The relatives of Ukrainian sailors, who were captured by Russia on November 25, 2018, Natalia Mokriak and Olha Oprysko will share their stories about how the Russian armed aggression affects women in Ukraine," reads the statement of the Permanent Mission of Ukraine to the United Nations.

As noted, the event will be held within the framework of the 63rd session of the UN Commission on the Status of Women.

Natalia Mokriak is the mother of Roman Mokriak, the lieutenant of the Naval Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the commander of the small armored artillery boat "Berdiansk". Olha Oprysko is the daughter of Andriy Oprysko, senior seaman of the Naval Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. On the afternoon of March 11, a press conference with their participation is to be held at the UN Headquarters.

As reported, on November 25, 2018, Russian border ships fired on and seized three Ukrainian naval vessels moving from Odesa to Mariupol in the area of the Kerch Strait. Twenty-four Ukrainian sailors were captured. They were charged with illegally crossing Russia's border in the Black Sea. All captured sailors called themselves prisoners of war. Currently, they are held in Moscow’s remand prisons.
