Zubko: 882 united territorial communities already created in Ukraine

A total of 882 united territorial communities have been already created in Ukraine as part of the decentralization reform.

Deputy Prime Minister - Minister for Regional Development, Construction, Housing and Utilities Hennadiy Zubko said this at the Regional Development Council in Berdychiv (Zhytomyr region), the press service of the Regional Development Ministry reported.

“The decentralization reform, which started successfully in 2014, allowed us to transfer finances and authorities to the regions. Some 882 territorial communities have been already created. Local budgets are increasing annually, infrastructure is developing, responsibility of local authorities is growing,” Zubko said.

The goal of Ukraine is to become a regional leader, the minister added.

In addition, Zhytomyr region has all the opportunities to become an eastern hub between many regions of Ukraine and Belarus, and this chance should be used.

“The chance should be used in the development of logistics, attraction of investments, renewable energy, so that today Berdychiv becomes a real logistics hub between northern and western regions of Ukraine,“ he said.

Among the priority areas of development of Zhytomyr region the official also called the issue of security in the streets, the development of IT and tourism sectors.
