Flu activity gradually declining in the capital - Kyiv City Administration

The influenza and acute respiratory viral infection (ARVI) rate has declined by 12.3% in the city of Kyiv over the past week (February 18-24), according to Deputy Head of Kyiv City State Administration Mykola Povoroznyk.

“Thus, among children - 7,769 have fallen ill (a decrease by 11%), and among adults - 4,661 (a decrease by 14.2%),” Povoroznyk said, the press service of Kyiv City State Administration reported.

According to him, the intensity of epidemic process is at the level typical for this period of the year. Over the eighth week of 2019, 12,430 patients with influenza and ARVI were registered. The influenza and ARVI rate was 419.5, which is 51% lower the epidemic threshold.

"In particular, children make up 62.5% in the sickness rate structure, compared with 62% in the previous week. Among pupils, the sickness rate has declined by 5.5%: 3,386 cases, which is 46.1% of the total number of ill children and 28.8% of the total number of people who have consulted doctors," said Povoroznyk.

Povoroznyk also added that on February 18-24, 145 people were hospitalized, including 129 children.
