Competition for Ukraine's Anti-Corruption Court at the final stage - Sytnyk

The competition for the selection of judges of the High Anti-Corruption Court of Ukraine (HACC) is at the final stage, Director of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) Artem Sytnyk has said.

He said this at the presentation of a NABU report for the second half of 2018, an Ukrinform correspondent reported.

"An anti-corruption court can become a reality in the near future. [...] The competition for the selection of judges of the anti-corruption court is currently at the final stage. We took part in this and, pursuant to the memorandum signed between the [High] Qualification Commission of Judges, which conducts the selection for the anti-corruption court, and the NABU, we studied all the candidates applying for this competition. These materials were accessible to the [Public] Council of International Experts who participate in this selection. The overwhelming majority of dubious candidates were excluded by this council. And now we are seeing the final stage of this competition," Sytnyk said.

He also said that the NABU had currently prepared nearly 200 criminal proceedings that are currently in the courts and will be submitted to the anti-corruption court.

On June 7, 2018, the Verkhovna Rada adopted the law on the High Anti-Corruption Court. Ukrainian Prime Minister Volodymyr Groysman said in late December 2018 that Ukraine would have an independent anti-corruption court in the first quarter of 2019.
