Epidemic threshold for influenza and ARVI exceeded in 8 regions – Health Ministry

The epidemic threshold for influenza and ARVI has been exceeded in eight regions of Ukraine, the highest sickness rate was recorded in Chernihiv region, according to the Health Ministry’s press service.

“During the fourth week of 2019 (from January 21 to January 27), the epidemic threshold for influenza and ARVI was exceeded in Chernihiv region (31.8%), Chernivtsi region (23%), Ivano-Frankivsk region (22.6%), Zhytomyr region (10%), Khmelnytskyi region (7.2%), Mykolaiv region (4%), Kyiv region (1.8%) and Zakarpattia region (0.3%). The sickness rate - 516.2 per 100,000 population. A low intensity of influenza and ARVI was observed, as well as regional geographic distribution,” the ministry reported.

Also, the Health Ministry noted about a rise in sickness rate among children.

“Over the reporting week, 198,708 people fell ill with influenza and ARVI, of whom 58.5% were children under the age of 17. Compared to the previous week, the sickness rate among adults decreased by 6.9%, and grew by 12.5% among children under the age of 17,” the ministry reported.
