State Border Guard Service ready to introduce biometric visa regime with Russia

The State Border Guard Service of Ukraine is ready to introduce a biometric visa regime with the Russian Federation.

Oleh Slobodian, assistant to the head of the State Border Guard Service, stated this at a press conference entitled “Border-2019. Results and Forecasts,” an Ukrinform correspondent reported.

"We are fully prepared to implement this decision, since we’ve been working with biometric documents from 2017. There are no difficulties for us," Slobodian said.

He noted that if the relevant decision is adopted, then to enter Ukraine, Russian citizens will need biometric passports, which have been issued in Russia since 2010.

"However, the number of Russians who travel with such passports is low," added Slobodian.

As reported, Foreign Minister of Ukraine Pavlo Klimkin said that Ukraine intends to initiate the introduction of a biometric visa regime with the Russian Federation.
