Enthronement of Primate of Ukraine’s Orthodox Church to be held at St. Sophia Cathedral

The enthronement ceremony of Primate of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine Epiphanius will be held at the Saint Sophia Cathedral in Kyiv on February 3, 2019.

Metropolitan of Kyiv and All Ukraine Epiphanius said this to reporters after a liturgy at St. Michael's Cathedral on Saturday, an Ukrinform correspondent reported.

“Now we are preparing for the enthronement ceremony. It will take place at St. Sophia Cathedral on February 3. After that, the first meeting of the Holy Synod will be held, where relevant posts will be finally approved and appointed by synodal administrations, which will operate and further develop our single local Ukrainian Orthodox Church,“ the primate said.

As reported, the unification council of the local Orthodox Church of Ukraine took place at the Saint Sophia Cathedral in Kyiv on December 15. The clergy of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Kyiv Patriarchate, the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Moscow Patriarchate and the Ukrainian Autocephalous Orthodox Church established the unified local Orthodox Church of Ukraine, approved its charters and elected the primate - Metropolitan of Kyiv and All Ukraine Epiphanius.

On January 5, Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew signed the Tomos of Autocephaly of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine and handed it over to Metropolitan Epiphanius on January 6.

The primate of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine will turn 40 on February 3.

The enthronement is a solemn ceremony of elevation of the newly elected primate of the church to the throne.
