HCJ submits motions for appointment of over 1,200 judges over past two years

Ukraine's High Council of Justice (HCJ) has over the past two years submitted motions to President Petro Poroshenko for the appointment of more than 1,200 judges.

HCJ Chairman Ihor Benedysiuk said this in his welcoming speech at the 16th extraordinary congress of judges of Ukraine, according to an Ukrinform correspondent.

"Over the past two years alone, we have submitted motions for the appointment of more than 1,200 judges," Benedysiuk said.

He also emphasized that the powers received by the High Council of Justice are probably the largest over the entire period of reform of the judiciary. "They impose very important duties, first and foremost on us, judges," he added.

The 16th extraordinary congress of judges of Ukraine, where delegates should elect four members of the High Council of Justice, began its work in Kyiv. The congress will last until December 20.
