Attorneys trust Ukrainian courts more than prosecutor's office and anti-corruption institutions

Attorneys in Ukraine more trust the judiciary more than they trust prosecuting agencies and anti-corruption institutions, according to a survey conducted at the initiative of the USAID New Justice Program in September 2018.

The results of the survey of Ukrainian justice sector professionals who are participants to court proceedings, but do not work in the judicial system were made available to Ukrinform.

According to the survey, 41% of polled attorneys trust or most likely trust the judiciary as a whole and 47% trust separate courts, whereas only 30% of lawyers trust prosecuting agencies, 28% - the National Agency on Corruption Prevention, the National Anti-Corruption Bureau and the Security Service of Ukraine, 27% - the State Border Guard Service, and 25% - the police.

The USAID survey covered attorneys, prosecutors, in-house lawyers of government entities and businesses, and Ministry of Interior investigators.

The survey was conducted in September 2018 with the help of personal interviews with 400 people in Ukrainian cities with a population of over 50,000 people. The survey was conducted in all regions of Ukraine, except for Crimea and non-government controlled areas.
