Joint Forces commander not ruling out attempts by Russia to create 'corridor' to Crimea

Ukraine does not rule out Russia might attempt to create a "corridor" to Crimea so it is working out the interaction of all military forces, Joint Forces Operation (JFO) Commander Serhiy Nayev has said in an interview with BBC Ukrainian.

"Today we take into account such a threat [to create the 'corridor' to Crimea]. In order to remove it, we conduct planning and work out the interaction of all forces, including at sea. We keep them in constant readiness. There are routine and surprise inspections," he said.

Nayev also stressed that at present the presence of border guards near the coast of Donetsk region does not annoy the Ukrainian side.

"Here, the Russian Federation is conducting aerial reconnaissance. But they do not enter our area of responsibility - they fly along their shores. There has never been a case in the JFO area [near the coast of Donetsk region] when FSB border guards stopped a Ukrainian or foreign ship heading to Mariupol," he said.
