Over 16,000 schools operate in Ukraine – education minister

Starting from a new school year, 16,176 general secondary schools, including more than 500 hub schools with branches, have been operating in Ukraine.

Education and Science Minister Lilia Hrynevych said this during an Hour of Questions to the Government in the Verkhovna Rada, an Ukrinform correspondent reported.

"Now we are developing a network of educational institutions. This year, 16,176 general secondary schools operate in Ukraine, these legal entities include about 1,000 branches of hub schools, in which children study and 441,000 teachers work. We created 199 hub schools with different branches," she said.

According to her, 24 schools were built, reconstructed or overhauled in 2018, including 10 schools – with the support of the State Fund for Regional Development. In total, over UAH 760 million was spent for repair works, including UAH 95.5 million from the State Fund for Regional Development.
