Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew informs Patriarch Kirill of Moscow about introduction of autocephaly in Ukraine

Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew informed Patriarch Kirill of Moscow about the implementation of the decision on granting autocephaly to Ukraine.

His Eminence Metropolitan Emmanuel of France, responsible for the process of providing Tomos of Autocephaly to Ukraine, made such a statement following the meeting of two patriarchs, Hromadske reports.

Overcoming the "church schism" in Ukraine remains important for the Ecumenical Patriarchate, he noted.

The meeting of Patriarch Bartholomew and Patriarch Kirill lasted for two and a half hours, mostly face to face in the presence of interpreters.

The Russian Orthodox Church opposes granting Tomos of Autocephaly to the Ukrainian Orthodox Church.

At the same time, Patriarch Bartholomew declared that granting autocephaly to the Ukrainian church is the ultimate goal of the Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople.
