Health Ministry: Over 600 people fall ill with measles in Ukraine over past week

A total of 615 people have fallen ill with measles in Ukraine over the 33rd week of 2018, the Public Health Center of the Health Ministry of Ukraine reports.

“Over the past week, a significant decrease in measles rate was recorded in Ukraine – by 20.13%. Some 29,444 people have fallen ill with measles since the start of the year: 12,020 adults and 17,424 children,” reads the report.

The largest number of cases of measles was recorded in Lviv region (5,743 people: 1,812 adults and 3,831 children), Zakarpattia region (2,981 people: 553 adults and 4,228 children), Ivano-Frankivsk region (2,731 people: 781 adults and 1,950 children), Odesa region (2,325 people: 1,174 adults and 1,515 children), Kyiv region (2,044 people: 1,276 adults and 768 children) and Ternopil region (1,580 people: 615 adults and 965 children), the Public Health Center reported.

In addition, 13 people have died of complications from measles: 9 children and 4 adults.
