OSCE announces new project to assist Ukraine in protecting critical infrastructure

OSCE Project Co-ordinator in Ukraine, Ambassador Vaidotas Verba has announced the preparation of a new project to assist Ukraine in protecting critical infrastructure.

He stated this during a press conference on Thursday, an Ukrinform correspondent reported.

"This project will be launched in order to strengthen the capacity of the Ukrainian authorities to respond to chemical threats in eastern Ukraine. Everyone knows about the Donetsk filtration station, a number of accidents, and the State Emergency Service of Ukraine is the first service to react and it officers must know what to do. Population, all authority bodies, all involved parties must be ready and know how to react. Chemicals do not have borders," he said.

The OSCE representative noted that the project is currently under development. He clarified that there are national partners in each project, and therefore the OSCE side is directly dependent on requests and needs of the Ukrainian side.

As reported, in June 2018, the OSCE Forum for Security Co-operation was held in Vienna regarding the issue of mines and mine clearance.
