Ecology minister: Most Ukrainians consider waste management problem important

Most Ukrainians consider the problem of waste management important.

"The latest polls say that 93% of Ukraine's population consider environmental issues important for them personally. Most Ukrainians (88%) consider the problem of waste management important. Almost half of respondents, 49%, consider this problem urgent. At the same time, half of respondents admit they do not know what happens to the garbage after it is taken from the containers near their houses," Ukrainian Ecology and Natural Resources Minister Ostap Semerak said at the first meeting of the coordination council for implementation of the Ukrainian National Waste Management Strategy until 2030, referring to the results of latest polls on this topic, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

Obviously, he noted, the responsibility starts with awareness of the problem and its consequences for a person. According to the minister, if Ukrainian citizens join solving these problems, are aware of how this system works and believe in its effectiveness, they can become the government’s partner in settlement of the waste management problem in the state.
