Ukraine open to cooperation with Council of Europe in human rights protection - Iryna Gerashchenko

Ukraine is open to cooperation in the issues of human rights protection and solving humanitarian problems.

First Deputy Chairwoman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Iryna Gerashchenko said this during a Skype conference with Council of Europe Commissioner for Human Rights Dunja Mijatovic.

"Together with Verkhovna Rada Human Rights Commissioner Liudmyla Denisova, we had a Skype conference call with Council of Europe Commissioner for Human Rights Dunja Mijatovic. Foreign Minister Pavlo Klimkin and his deputy Serhiy Kyslytsia also joined the conversation. We congratulated Dunja Mijatovic on taking office and noted Ukraine's openness to cooperation for the sake of general protection of human rights and the solution of humanitarian problems," Gerashchenko informed.

She said that the participants of the Skype conference also discussed the situation with illegally detained citizens of Ukraine on the territory of the Russian Federation, the territories controlled by Russian-backed militants, and in the occupied Crimea.

In October, during the fourth part of the PACE session, the Ukrainian parliamentary delegation intends to meet with Dunja Mijatovic to exchange information and discuss the development of cooperation within the mandate of the CoE Commissioner for Human Rights.
