Almost 29 mln Kyiv subway trips paid with contactless cards in past three years

Since the contactless fare payment system was launched at Kyiv subway three years ago, 29 million trips were paid with contactless cards.

Director for business development of MasterCard in Ukraine, Sergiy Frantsishko, stated this during a press conference "Start something priceless: initiatives that changed the city" in Lviv, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

“Over the past three years, the system has recorded almost 29 million passages. This means about 100 thousand passages per day," Frantsishko said.

He also noted that according to company's estimations, last year 13 million tourists visited Ukraine, who made 75% of all payments with cards.

"These tourists spent 1.1 billion euros in Ukraine," added Frantsishko.

As earlier reported, Kyiv became the fifth city in the world, after London, St. Petersburg, Chicago and Bucharest, where subway trips can be paid with contactless payment bank cards.
