Parliamentary committee supports proposal to rename Dnipropetrovsk and Kirovohrad regions

The Verkhovna Rada Committee on State Building, Regional Policy and Local Self-Government has supported a proposal to rename Dnipropetrovsk and Kirovohrad regions.

Director of the Ukrainian Institute of National Memory Volodymyr Viatrovych wrote this on his Facebook page.

“The Verkhovna Rada Committee on State Building, Regional Policy and Local Self-Government supported a proposal to rename Dnipropetrovsk region into Sicheslavsk and Kirovohrad region into Kropyvnytskyi. De-communization cannot be stopped," he wrote.

The relevant bills on renaming the two regions had been earlier registered in the Verkhovna Rada in the spring of the current year.

In 2016, the Verkhovna Rada renamed the city of Dnipropetrovsk into Dnipro and the city of Kirovohrad into Kropyvnytskyi.

In April 2015, the Parliament passed a bill condemning the communist and Nazi totalitarian regimes and banned their propaganda and symbols.
