Ukrainians in Lisbon ask Portuguese president to discuss with Putin the release of political prisoners

Ukrainian activists in Lisbon called on President of Portugal Marcelo Rebelo De Sousa to discuss in Moscow the issue of release of Oleg Sentsov and other 70 Ukrainian political prisoners.

Activist Pavlo Sadokha informed this on his Facebook page.

"Knowing that you [President Marcelo Rebelo De Sousa] officially expressed a desire to meet with the Russian president, we ask you to discuss the situation of the release of Ukrainian political prisoners who were unjustly arrested and imprisoned in the Russian Federation," the statement reads.

The Ukrainian community of Portugal expressed hope for the support of Rebelo De Sousa and the Portuguese diplomacy in order to "protect the rights of Ukrainian political prisoners who are defenseless and feel injustice while staying in Russian prisons."

As known, the Portuguese president will go to the match of the Portuguese football team on June 20, where he plans to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

As reported, according to the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry, at least 24 Ukrainians are political prisoners in Russia, and more than 40 - in the occupied Crimea. This list also includes Ukrinform journalist Roman Sushchenko, who was sentenced to 12 years in prison in Russia.
