Issue of political prisoners raised at all high-level meetings - Maryna Poroshenko

The issue of the release of Ukrainian political prisoners from Russian prisons is raised at all international high-level meetings with the participation of President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko.

First Lady of Ukraine Maryna Poroshenko said this at a press conference with regional and all-Ukrainian media outlets, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

"In recent years, I have been participating in the international scheduled high-level meetings of President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko, and as a witness I want to say that the issue of the release of Ukrainian political prisoners is always on the agenda and is discussed at all meetings. After that, his interlocutors use all possible means to correct this injustice," the wife of the president said.

She added that during her meetings with the wives of the top officials and during other international events, she also touched upon this issue.

"With great pain we received the news that on June 4, our journalist, another political hostage, was sentenced to 12 years in a strict regime penal colony in Russia. This is Roman Sushchenko, he is also a political prisoner of the Kremlin. But we do not forget our fellow countrymen and we will fight to the last ditch, so that they are released and returned to Ukraine," Maryna Poroshenko said.

She stressed that Ukraine urged the Kremlin to release Ukrainian political prisoners, and expressed hope that together with the rest of the world we would win.
