Ukraine, Spain to sign new agreement on social security

Ukraine and Spain will sign a new bilateral agreement on social security for better protection of the interests of Ukrainians and a Ukrainian community in Spain.

President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko stated this while speaking at the Almudena Cathedral in Madrid on Sunday.

"We appreciate Spain's creation of favorable conditions for providing cultural and educational issues to Ukrainians. I want to tell you one more news. On my instructions, we are completing our joint work with the Spanish friends regarding the bilateral agreement on social security - to replace the previous agreement, which was signed 22 years ago, in 1996. Just like there was no visit of the Ukrainian president to Madrid for 22 years. The signing of this agreement in the near future will help remove some problematic issues in the social sector on the protection of Ukrainians and the Ukrainian community," the head of state noted.

He also thanked Spain for assisting Ukraine in upholding its state sovereignty, territorial integrity and independence, as well as for a firm position on non-recognition of the illegal annexation of Crimea.

As Ukrinform reported, President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko was on an official visit to the Kingdom of Spain on June 2-4.
