Canadian Association of Crimean Tatars urges to expand sanctions against Russia

Canada should expand sectoral and personal sanctions against supporters of Russia’s ruling regime.

President of the Canadian Association of Crimean Tatars Rustem Irsai stated this, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

"We call on the Canadian Parliament to tighten sanctions against Russia’s criminal regime and to bring more oligarchs to the Magnitsky list," he said.

In his opinion, the oligarchs who support the Putin regime should not be allowed to travel to Canada, as this is not a place for Putin's blood money.

He also expressed hope that Canada "will become one of the first states in the world to recognize the genocide of the Crimean Tatars."

"We are sure that Crimea will be free very soon and return to Ukraine. We do everything possible for this," the president of the Canadian Association of Crimean Tatars summed up.

As reported, in 2015, the Parliament of Ukraine declared May 18 as the Day of Remembrance of the Victims of Genocide of the Crimean Tatar People.
