Japanese ambassador to plant sakura trees in Bakhmut of Donetsk region on May 2

Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Ukraine Shigeki Sumi will take part in a campaign to plant cherry blossom trees in Bakhmut, Donetsk region, on May 2.

This was reported by the Bakhmut City Council on Friday.

"In order to strengthen friendly relations and cooperation between the countries, cherry blossom trees will be planted in the central part of our city with the participation of Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Ukraine Shigeki Sumi, representatives of regional and local authorities, public and residents of Bakhmut town," the report reads.

In 2017, as part of the celebration of the 25th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations, as well as the celebration of the Year of Japan in Ukraine, the Embassy of Japan, with the support of JTI, launched a campaign of sakura planting. In general, more than 1,500 sakura trees were planted in Ukrainian cities.
