Infrastructure minister Omelian: Ukraine records twice as many traffic deaths as EU

About eleven people die as a result of traffic accidents in Ukraine every day, more than twice the number of people killed similarly in the countries of the European Union.

Ukrainian Infrastructure Minister Volodymyr Omelian said this at the government meeting, presenting the state program to improve the road safety in Ukraine until 2020, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

"About eleven people die as a result of traffic accidents in Ukraine every day, more than twice the number of people killed similarly in the countries of the European Union. Most accidents with severe consequences occur due to speeding, poorly equipped pedestrian crossings, dangerous crossroads, drunk driving," Omelian said.
