Ukraine to open consulate general in Edmonton

Ukraine will open the consulate general in Edmonton, the capital of the Canadian province of Alberta, on September 7.

Foreign Minister of Ukraine Pavlo Klimkin announced this while communicating with the Ukrainian diaspora in Toronto.

"We expect the consulate to open on September 7. I invite everyone to this event," Klimkin said, when asked about the opening of a Ukrainian diplomatic mission in Edmonton.

The diplomat noted that Ukraine would continue to expand the network of its consulates.

Foreign Affairs Minister of Canada Chrystia Freeland could attend the official opening ceremony of the Consulate General of Ukraine in Edmonton, Klimkin added.

About 300,000 residents of Alberta (about 10% of the province’s population) claim to have Ukrainian ancestry.
