Migration outflow exceeds mortality rate in Ukraine in recent years

In recent years, the migration outflow has exceeded the mortality rate in Ukraine.

This was announced by Director of the Institute for Demography and Social Studies of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine Ella Libanova, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

"Although I am absolutely convinced that the main problem of Ukraine is the extremely high premature mortality of the population, especially among men and the rural population, I have to admit that in recent years, the migration outflow of the population has been twice as large as the mortality rate,” Libanova said.

Thus, she stressed, "the external migration has turned into the main component of depopulation."

"We should realize this. It is difficult to cope with the problems of mortality, but it is possible to reduce the scale of migration," Libanova said.
