Two more political prisoners in Crimea kept in prison due to posts on Facebook

A number of Ukrainians who are illegally kept in the territory of Russia or in occupied Crimea has increased to 66 people.

Head of the Board of the Crimean Human Rights Group Olha Skrypnyk said this during a press conference on Monday, February 12, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

"At the end of 2017, the human rights organizations together with relatives handed over a list of at least 64 Ukrainian citizens, who are illegally detained either in Crimea or in Russia, to the Foreign Ministry of Ukraine. But at the beginning of 2018, we are forced to admit that this list has become larger. In January and early February, two more people were imprisoned in Crimea, and they were accused of publishing certain posts on Facebook or other social networks. A pre-trial restraint has been already imposed and they are kept in jail," she said.

In addition, she said that "there are also other people and their rights are limited and they remain under the supervision of the Federal Security Service." Such citizens, in particular, cannot leave the territory of Crimea, because they are under house arrest or they are subject to suspended sentence.
