Over the sixth week of 2018, 25, 831 people fell ill with flu and acute respiratory infection in the city of Kyiv. The epidemic threshold has not been exceeded.

Head of the healthcare department at the Kyiv City State Administration, Valentyna Ginzburg, stated this at a press briefing on Monday, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

“During the sixth week, 25, 831 people fell ill; [the sickness rate] grew by 15.6%. As usual, sickness rate among children totaled 70% of all people ill with flu. In particular, sickness rate among children grew by 15%, and by almost 19% among schoolchildren…The sickness rate is lower than the epidemic threshold by 15%, "Ginzburg said.

She also added that over the past week, 266 people were hospitalized, including 189 children. At the same time, on Monday morning, only 11 people still were in hospitals, including two children.

Ginzburg specified that people were hospitalized mainly due to complications of pneumonia, which arose as a result self-medication rather than consulting a doctor.

No deaths from flu-related complications have been recorded, she stressed.
