Former Ukrainian MP Shepelev detained in Koncha-Zaspa - source

Law enforcers have detained former Ukrainian MP Oleksandr Shepelev in Koncha-Zaspa near Kyiv, a source in law enforcement agencies has told Ukrinform.

"Shepelev was detained in Koncha-Zaspa, where he has a house. He has already lived there for a week," the source said.

According to him, Shepelev was detained by employees of the Main Military Prosecutor's Office and the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU).

The ex-MP now stays is in the SBU's detention facility on Askoldovy Lane in Kyiv. Today, representatives of the Main Military Prosecutor's Office will send a petition to Pechersky District Court to select a measure of restraint for Shepelev in the form of remanding in custody.

The Main Military Prosecutor's Office carries out a pre-trial investigation in criminal proceedings against former MP Shepelev on suspicion of committing a deliberate murder and assassination attempt on two or more persons, by prior conspiracy with a group of persons, organizing the seizure of a vehicle, organizing the embezzlement of state funds of PJSC Rodovid Bank, their legalization and official forgery.

In late December 2012, suspect Shepelev was put on the international wanted list. In July 2013, he was detained in Hungary and, following the extradition procedure, he was taken to Ukraine in March 2014.

However, in July 2014, Shepelev escaped from custody to evade criminal responsibility. On the same day, he was again placed on the international wanted list, and the court chose a preventive measure for him in the form of remanding in custody.

On March 19, 2015, employees of the Russian law enforcement agencies detained Shepelev in the Moscow region on suspicion of committing these crimes.
