OSCE High Commissioner in Uzhhorod confirms the need to learn state language – Foreign Ministry

OSCE High Commissioner on National Minorities Lamberto Zannier during a visit to Uzhhorod clearly confirmed the need for all citizens of Ukraine to learn the state language while retaining the right to learn the languages of national minorities.

Ukrainian Deputy Foreign Minister Vasyl Bodnar informed this on Twitter.

"The visit to Uzhhorod began with a meeting with OSCE High Commissioner on National Minorities Lamberto Zannier. The High Commissioner clearly confirmed the need to learn the state language by all citizens of Ukraine while preserving the right to learn the languages of national minorities," Bodnar wrote.

Earlier, he said that in pursuance of the instructions from Ukrainian Foreign Minister Pavlo Klimkin he would be on a working trip to Uzhhorod on February 6-7. The agenda included meetings with the region's leadership and the local Hungarian community, negotiations with the OSCE High Commissioner on National Minorities and Ukrainian-Hungarian consultations.
