Lutkovska plans to agree with Russian ombudsperson on mutual visits

Ukrainian Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights Valeria Lutkovska expects to sign an updated memorandum of cooperation with Russian Human Rights Ombudsperson Tatyana Moskalkova in the near future.

Lutkovska said this at a press conference on Monday, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

"We hope that an updated memorandum on cooperation between the two ombudspersons will be signed. This memorandum is very important for me in order to effectively protect the interests of Ukrainians in the territory of the Russian Federation who are kept in detention facilities," Lutkovska said.

According to her, the document should include the possibility of mutual monitoring visits. "I am ready to meet Tatyana Moskalkova [Russian Human Rights Ombudsperson] in any place on the territory controlled by Ukraine so that she could see the conditions in which Russian citizens live on the territory. But I would like to get the same opportunities in return," Lutkovska said.

Lutkovska adds that according to official information, there are approximately 5,000 people in Russian captivity, including not only political prisoners but also those who went there for work and ended up in jail.
