Works by 15 Ukrainian writers translated into English, published in US
The English-language anthology of modern Ukrainian literature The White Chalk of Days has been published in the United States.
"Ukrainian literature is one of the liveliest literatures in the world. At the same time, it is one of the least known to an English-speaking reader. The anthology presents both the Soviet and post-Soviet period. The authors are from different regions of the country. It perfectly well shows the cultural diversity of Ukraine," American poet and critic Lloyd Schwartz characterized the anthology, gazeta.ua reports.
The anthology was arranged by Mark Andryczyk, Professor of Ukrainian literature at the Columbia University in the City of New York.
The anthology includes the poems by Hrytsko Chubai and Oleh Lyshehs, the essay about the Chernobyl disaster by Yuri Andrukhovych, an abstract from the novel Jimi Hedrix live in Lemberg by Andrey Kurkov, the poems about pre-war and post-war Donbas by Liubov Yakymchuk, the works by Maryana Savka, Viktor Neborak, Andriy Bondar, Serhiy Zhadan, Taras Prokhasko, Vasyliy Habor, Yuri Vynnychuk, Oleksandr Boychenko, Sofia Andrukhovych.
The name of the anthology, The White Chalk of Days, is a line from the poem by Ivan Malkovych.
The release of the anthology was funded within the framework of the American grant program.
