Ukrainians in Australia urge politicians to boycott 2018 World Cup in Russia

The Australian Federation of Ukrainian Organizations calls on senior government official of Australia to refrain from attending the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia.

Chairman of the Australian Federation of Ukrainian Organizations Stefan Romaniw stated this, an Ukrinform correspondent reported.

"If one attends the FIFA World Cup, which will be held in the Russian Federation in 2018, it will only confirm Putin's words that Ukraine is the issue of lower priority, and the international community supports Russia," he said.

The initiative of Ukrainians in Australia arose after the call of the Ukrainian World Congress to boycott the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia. The Australian Federation of Ukrainian Organizations appealed to the ministers of sports, foreign affairs, the chairman of the Australian-Ukrainian parliamentary friendship group, as well as representatives of the shadow opposition government, to support this initiative.
