Ukrainian diaspora welcomes EU decision to extend economic sanctions against Russia

The Ukrainian World Congress (UWC) welcomes the European Union’s decision to extend sectoral economic sanctions against the Russian Federation for additional six months until 31 July 2018.

“The Ukrainian World Congress calls upon the international community to remain firm and united in maintaining the targeted sanctions against the Russian Federation, thereby demonstrating that violations of fundamental values such as the territorial integrity of independent states will not be tolerated,” UWC President Eugene Czolij stated.

The UWC actively promoted the extension of sanctions against the Russian Federation until it fully complies with the Minsk agreements and de-occupies Crimea.

Economic sanctions targeting the financial, energy and defense sectors were imposed against the Russian Federation on July 31, 2014 in response to its violations of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine.
