Ukraine, France sign agreement on joint Antarctic researches

Ukrainian scientists now have the opportunity to take part in the research at French Antarctic and sub-Antarctic research stations.

Such an agreement was reached at the meeting of Dmytro Cheberkus, the director of the department for scientific and technological development at the Education and Science Ministry of Ukraine, the representative of the Government of Ukraine in the Secretariat of the Antarctic Treaty, with Yves Frenot, the director of the French Polar Institute, the press service of the Education and Science Ministry reports.

"We plan to launch bilateral cooperation in selected projects in field of Antarctic research. Thus, our scientists will have the opportunity to become involved in scientific research in French Antarctic and sub-Antarctic research stations. These projects can be both short-term and long-term, up to one year," said Cheberkus, adding that the Ukrainian scientists have already got interested in two research projects on the Kerguelen archipelago.

In particular, the French side proposed cooperation in a number of scientific projects in such fields as geology, climate, wildlife, astronomy, seismology, and the like.
