Council of Europe Office in Ukraine intends to launch project on protection of national minorities

The Council of Europe Office in Ukraine in 2018 plans to launch a project on the protection of national minorities’ rights.

Deputy Head of the Council of Europe Office in Ukraine Olena Lytvynenko told this to an Ukrinform correspondent.

“We make efforts so that it [the project on the protection of national minorities’ rights] can be launched as soon as possible. There are certain administrative procedures ... I can hardly say for sure, but I think that the project will be put into effect closer to spring," Lytvynenko noted.

According to her, the project will include the publication of textbooks in the languages of national minorities, consultations at the regional level, a regular dialogue with representatives of national minorities on the language issues and key reforms in Ukraine.

"During the first months of 2018, the main directions of the project will be determined ... I do not think it will have pilot regions, I think it will be all-Ukrainian,” Lytvynenko stressed.
