Film about Oleg Sentsov nominated for Silver Eye 2017 international award

Film The Trial about Oleg Sentsov by Russian director Askold Kurov has been nominated for the Silver Eye 2017 international award in the category of Eastern and Central Europe documentary.

Films were selected for participation in three categories: short and mid-length films and history. The film about Sentsov was included in the history category, the Crimea.Realities portal reports.

The awarding ceremony will take place at the Jihlava International Documentary Film Festival (Czech Republic) on October 24-29.

Ukrainian filmmaker Oleg Sentsov and activist Oleksandr Kolchenko were detained by Russian security services in Crimea in May 2014 on charges of plotting terrorist attacks on the peninsula.

August 25, 2015, the North-Caucasian Military Court in Russia's Rostov-on-Don sentenced Oleg Sentsov and Oleksandr Kolchenko to 20 and 10 years in a penal colony respectively for alleged "plotting acts of terrorism."
