Ukrainian neurosurgeons use unparalleled technique to remove brain tumor

Surgeons of the Romodanov Institute of Neurosurgery in Kyiv used an unparalleled technique to remove a brain tumor.

The surgeons primarily created a computer model of the tumor to see where it is located and which parts of the brain it aligns to. The model became a navigation map for a computer system and a doctor. For the surgery itself, the doctors used unusual technique which no one used before, the TSN Ukrainian news service reports.

According to the neurosurgeons, three techniques were simultaneously used: endoscopy (which allowed reaching the most difficult areas), computer navigation and laser to remove the tumor.

"This is the only way to remove the tumor and save a patient the quality of life," said surgeon Volodymyr Rozumenko.

These techniques have not been yet combined by any surgeons in the world. The result surpassed the expectations. There was practically no blood during the surgery, and the patient was delivered directly to the general hospital room from the operating room.
