Observatory in Ukrainian Carpathians to be restored

The observatory on the Pop Ivan mountain in the Ukrainian Carpathians will soon be restored to facilitate the development of Ukrainian science and improve the international relations.

Ukrainian Education and Science Minister of Ukraine Lilia Hrynevych announced this, the press service of the Education and Science Ministry reports.

"The meteorological equipment is planned to be installed this year, and later an astronomical telescope that will work at the facility will be delivered there. Apart from the astronomical and meteorological observations, we are going to establish a research center to explore the flora and fauna of the Carpathian National Nature Park, the ecology of the region and so on,” Hrynevych said.

The project is implemented jointly by the Vasyl Stefanyk Precarpathian National University and the University of Warsaw. As soon as the observatory is restored, the students from both universities will be able to conduct researchers there.

The astronomical and meteorological observatory at the top of the Pop Ivan mountain operated in 1938-1941.
