Ukraine increases funding for HIV, TB treatment programs by 140%

The Government of Ukraine has decided to increase funding of state programs for HIV and TB treatment by 140% each.

Vice Prime Minister of Ukraine Pavlo Rozenko said this at the meeting of the Coordinating Board of the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS) in Geneva on Tuesday, the Government portal reports.

"Despite deep economic crisis in 2014-2015 due to the military aggression [of Russia against Ukraine], the Government made an unprecedented decision to increase state funding for HIV treatment and TB treatment programs by 140% each," Rozenko said.

In his view, this step as well as the active participation of the international donors should allow Ukraine to double the number of patients who will receive antiretroviral treatment in 2017.
