More than half million Ukraine children vaccinated against polio - Health Ministry

More than 500,000 children were inoculated in the first stage of mandatory polio vaccination.

The Ministry of Health reports.

"Through November 2, 2015, more than 500,000 children were vaccinated with polio OPV vaccine, representing 25 percent of the total number of children who require vaccination that amounts to more than two million children," a statement said.

Most children are active vaccinated in the Kirovohrad, Mykolayiv, Chernihiv and Zhytomyr regions. Immunization I carried out slowly in the Donetsk, Lviv and Transcarpathia regions and in the capital city of Kyiv.

The first immunization stage ends on November 7, 2015.

As a reminder, three-stage additional vaccination against polio has kicked off in Ukraine. In order to protect the population from the disease and form a collective immunity, the Ministry of Health together with WHO and UNICEF have developed a plan to conduct three stages of immunization additional by using OPV oral polio vaccine for all children aged from two months to six years.
