Ukraine open to joint defense projects with Slovakia — FM Sybiha
The foreign ministers of Ukraine and Slovakia, Andrii Sybiha and Juraj Blanár, discussed deepening cooperation in the defense industry.
Sybiha announced this at a press conference following his talks with Blanár in Vinnytsia, according to a Ukrinform correspondent.
“We discussed prospects for deepening cooperation in the defense industry: Ukraine is open to joint defense projects with partners, particularly within the framework of the SAFE instrument. We are ready for such cooperation with Slovakia, as strengthening Ukraine’s defense capabilities simultaneously enhances Europe’s security,” Sybiha said.
According to him, Ukraine appreciates Slovakia’s support for all 20 EU sanctions packages against Russia.
“Sanctions are a tool to compel Russia to make peace. However, pressure must be intensified in sectors critical to the Russian Federation’s budget. We count on further cooperation in this area,” the minister noted.
He also emphasized that Ukraine highly values Slovakia’s practical contribution to the international demining coalition and the coalition for shelter construction.
“This is vital assistance that saves lives today and creates the conditions for the safe recovery of Ukrainian communities tomorrow,” he said.
The Foreign Minister described the talks with his Slovak counterpart as frank, substantive, and pragmatic.
According to him, the parties discussed the security situation and the situation on the battlefield.
“Our positions today are among the strongest in recent years, which is precisely why Russia, unable to achieve its goals on the battlefield, is intensifying its terror against civilians. That is why strengthening air defense is so critically important; all our efforts are currently focused on this,” he stated.
Also, according to Sybiha, the ministers discussed in detail the implementation of the agreements between President Volodymyr Zelensky and Prime Minister Robert Fico.
“We are actively working on further meetings and events,” the foreign minister emphasized.
As reported, on June 5, talks were held in Vinnytsia between Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha and Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic Juraj Blanár.
