Ukrainian diplomacy is working to reestablish a permanent presence in Syria and deepen cooperation with countries in the region. At the same time, the government is striving for global stability and working on new security agreements with its partners.

President Volodymyr Zelensky made this statement in an evening video address, according to Ukrinform.

“Our team is currently finalizing the agreements resulting from the recent visits. The head of Naftogaz is working with the Turkish side to implement everything we discussed the day before yesterday in Istanbul. For us, cooperation with Turkey is one of the guarantees of energy security and logistical security. There is a solid foundation for taking new joint steps,” Zelensky noted.

He emphasized that the recent meeting with President Erdogan was one of the most positive in years and expressed his gratitude for it.

“The diplomatic wing of our team is also working on Syria to strengthen our cooperation. We have already restored full-fledged relations; we must also restore a permanent diplomatic presence and constant cooperation,” Zelensky noted.

According to him, National Security and Defense Council Secretary Rustem Umerov is currently continuing to work in the region to facilitate joint security measures with relevant countries and expand both defense and economic relations.

“We already have agreements with Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, and Jordan. Oman and Bahrain are also interested. For the first time in history, Ukraine is not merely represented in the Middle East and Gulf region, but is a welcome and strong partner there,” the Head of State emphasized.

The President noted that Ukraine was among the first to provide principled support to the region when attacks by the Iranian regime began—“and we did so in a tangible way. We also supported Syria when the Assad regime was overthrown. We must now take into account the interests of the Iranian people so that everything proceeds with dignity.”

“We strive for a dignified peace for ourselves, and this is precisely what we are promoting diplomatically. Our goal is absolutely clear: we need stability and peace in Europe, we need stability and peace in the Middle East and the Gulf, as well as in other globally important regions, so that the world does not face such problems as destabilized markets, a destroyed energy sector, disrupted shipping, a nuclear threat, or food insecurity,” Zelensky stated.

He emphasized that all nations deserve security – “and there will also be new security agreements that will certainly strengthen Ukraine.”

“Right now, a wide variety of countries want to cooperate with Ukraine as a security partner, but we are open to working with all those who support our sovereignty, our independence, and respect our people. I thank you for making Ukraine what it is today and for the respect Ukraine now commands,” the President concluded.

As reported by Ukrinform, President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that if Russia is ready to stop attacks on Ukraine’s energy sector, Ukraine is ready to respond in kind. The corresponding proposal has been conveyed to the aggressor country through the Americans.
