Trump comments on possibility of redirecting weapons for Ukraine to Middle East

U.S. President Donald Trump stated that American military forces redirect their resources all the time, commenting on reports that the U.S. Department of Defense is considering diverting weapons originally intended for Ukraine to the Middle East.

He made the remarks during a government meeting at the White House on Thursday, March 26, Ukrinform reports.

"We do that [redirect military resources] all the time. We have a tremendous amount of munition. We have it in other countries like in Germany and all over Europe. We're packed. We take sometimes, we take from one and use for another. We helped Ukraine. Biden started and he gave it the $350 billion away. Way too much. And we sell it now, we sell it to NATO and they will probably give it to Ukraine. We get paid for everything. We don't give anything anymore," Trump said.

He described the situation in Ukraine as "very tough."

"We are working very hard on getting that one solved [the Russia-Ukraine war]. It doesn't have any impact on us . If anything we sell a lot of equipment for that unfortunate war. 25,000 people died last month, mostly soldiers. No one has ever seen anything like it since World War II. It's a terrible situation and hopefully it's going to get settled," he said.

Trump again noted that there is a lot of hatred between Russian leader Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

He also criticized German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, who recently said that "the war against Iran is not our war."

"Ukraine is not our war, but we helped. I thought it was a very inappropriate statement. But I would like to see all those young people stop being killed. Two months ago about 31,000 people died in one month. 31,000 soldiers both Russian and Ukrainian, died two months ago. 25,000 last month. And if I could resolve this, it would be a great honor to do it. I wish it could've gone faster," Trump said.

As Ukrinform reported, the American newspaper The Washington Post, citing its sources, reported that the U.S. Department of Defense is considering redirecting weapons intended for Ukraine to the Middle East, as the war in Iran is depleting stocks of some critical ammunition for the U.S. military.
