Russia changes its political strategy in Africa – CCD
In Madagascar, the creation of the party "Patriotic Awakening of a United Madagascar" has been announced, which openly declares its ties with Russia.
The Center for Countering Disinformation under the National Security and Defense Council stated this on Telegram, Ukrinform reports.
"This indicates the evolution of Russia's strategy in Africa. If previously Moscow mainly used 'soft power' tools - media, cultural projects, and educational programs - it is now increasingly moving toward direct political influence through the creation of loyal parties," the CCD said.
According to the institution, these political forces may become instruments for promoting Russia's geopolitical interests and influencing the domestic politics of African states.
It is also noted that the "Patriotic Awakening of a United Madagascar" (Reveil Patriotique de Madagascar Uni, RPMU) is the political wing of the "Friends of Russia" association.
"During the ceremony announcing the creation of the political force, a Russian flag was placed next to the flag of Madagascar, and the party leader emphasized personal ties with Russia and support from the Russian embassy," the statement said.
The CCD also reported that among the priorities of this new political force are strengthening cooperation with the BRICS countries and countering the "neo-colonial policy of France."
"Such rhetoric is typical of Russian information campaigns in Africa," the institution explained.
As Ukrinform previously reported, Russia is conducting a disinformation campaign against Ukraine using the context of events in the Middle East.
