Trump urges Zelensky to reach deal with Russia

U.S. President Donald Trump believes that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky "has to get on the ball, and he has to get a deal done" with Russian leader Vladimir Putin, whom he described as ready for such an agreement.

Trump said this in an interview with Politico, according to Ukrinform.

"Zelenksy he has to get on the ball, and he has to get a deal done," Trump said.

According to him, the Kremlin leader is already prepared to negotiate an end to the war.

"I think Putin is ready to make a deal," Trump added.

When asked what exactly is preventing President Zelensky from reaching a peace agreement, Trump declined to give detailed explanations but emphasized that the Ukrainian leader does not appear sufficiently willing to negotiate.

"It's unthinkable that he's the obstacle. You don't have the cards. Now he's got even less cards," Trump said.

As Ukrinform previously reported, President Volodymyr Zelensky said following negotiations in Geneva that there has been progress on military issues, particularly regarding monitoring of a ceasefire. However, on political matters, including territories, the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant, and other sensitive issues, the positions of the sides remain different.

He also stated that Ukraine had approached the United States with a proposal to possibly change the location and postpone a trilateral meeting due to the war in the Middle East.
