NATO says it heard very clear defense plan from Ukraine

NATO Deputy Secretary General Radmila Sekerinska believes that the timeliness of military assistance to Ukraine plays a decisive role.

She made this statement during a press conference following a meeting of defense leaders in the E5 format (Poland, the United Kingdom, Germany, France, and Italy) in Krakow, Ukrinform's correspondent reports.

"We continue to stand with Ukraine. This was the focus of our discussions today, but also our focus at the UDCG last week in Brussels," Sekerinska said.

She recalled recent reports confirming that the Russian army, which had expected to seize Kyiv in three days, suffered historically high losses in killed personnel in December and January (35,000 and 30,000 respectively).

She also noted that during today's meeting, E5 representatives heard from Ukraine's Ministry of Defense "a very clear plan for Ukrainian defenses," adding that "our role is to support these efforts, to continue supporting Ukraine so that they can defend themselves today, so that they can stand strong as the negotiations continue, but also to deter any future aggression."

Sekerinska quoted an ancient philosopher who said that a clear "definition of virtue is about giving."

"Giving to the right people, for the right cause, in the right amount and with the right timing. And I think that we know that this is the right cause to commit to. This is definitely a nation that has deserved our support, but I will finish by saying that timing is essential," she said.

As previously reported, EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas stated that Russia must make concessions on the path to signing a peace agreement as the party responsible for unleashing the war, while the EU will continue to put pressure on Russia.
