Zelensky: Ukraine imposes sanctions on Lukashenko
President Volodymyr Zelensky announced that Ukraine is imposing sanctions on Alexander Lukashenko, who not only provided Belarusian territory for the deployment of the Oreshnik missiles but also allowed Russia to supply critical components for this weapon.
The president announced this on Telegram, according to Ukrinform.
“Today, Ukraine applied a package of sanctions against Alexander Lukashenko, and we will significantly intensify countermeasures against all forms of his assistance in the killing of Ukrainians. We will work with partners so that this has a global effect,” Zelensky stated.
He noted that Alexander Lukashenko not only provided Belarusian territory for the Oreshnik missiles. Last year, the country's enterprises supplied Russia with critical components and mechanical bases for this weapon. This continues in 2026.
The president also noted that in the second half of 2025, the Russians deployed a system of repeaters for controlling combat drones on the territory of Belarus, which increased the Russian army's ability to strike our northern regions, from Kyiv to Volyn.
“The Russians would not have been able to carry out some of the attacks, particularly on energy facilities and railways in our regions, without such assistance from Belarus. More than 3,000 Belarusian enterprises have been put at the service of Russia’s war and supply machinery, equipment, and components categorized as ‘critically important,’ including components for the production of missiles that terrorize our cities and villages,” the president noted.
Zelensky emphasized that Alexander Lukashenko has long been trading Belarus' sovereignty for the continuation of his personal power, helping the Russians circumvent international sanctions for this aggression, actively justifying the Russian war, and now increasing his own participation in escalating and prolonging the war.
“There will be special consequences for this,” he concluded.
As reported, on January 26, the first bilateral meeting between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Belarusian opposition leader Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya took place in Vilnius.
Later, during a conversation with journalists, Volodymyr Zelensky stated that there is now a risk that Belarus will be drawn into the war, primarily because the Oreshnik complex is located on its territory.
