Italy may join Trump's Board of Peace as observer – Meloni

Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni stated that her country may join U.S. President Donald Trump's Board of Peace as an observer.

According to Ukrinform, Bloomberg stated this in an article.

In an interview with local media, Meloni said Italy was invited as an observer country to the Board of Peace meeting scheduled in Washington on February 19.

"I believe an Italian and European presence is necessary, so I think we will respond positively to this invitation," she said.

According to her, Italy will likely participate in the Board's work as an observer.

It is noted that the creation of the Board of Peace was a key element of Trump's 20-point plan, which helped achieve a ceasefire in the war between Israel and Hamas in October.

In January, Meloni said she would not immediately sign the Board’s charter as a member, signaling that it could create legal risks.

"Some elements are incompatible with our constitution," she said at the time.

As Ukrinform reported, the EU has questioned the new U.S. peace initiative for Gaza, citing Trump's effectively unlimited powers on the Board of Peace and the concentration of authority in a single person's hands.
